A Quick Update For My Life Challenge 2

Just a quick update. I’m not too concerned about my food intake, although it’s been fairly decent.  My main concerns are no more snacking or eating after dinner time and trying my best to add a light and healthy snack between breakfast and lunch and lunch and dinner.

I’ve done okay with that until today, although I ate okay today. Tomorrow, I’ll pick up somefruit for those snacks before getting into the office.

I have to say, though, that I’m proud to say that I can actually feel that I still have muscles because they’re in pain from my light weight lifting and long walk and other cardio over the past four days.

As a side-note I’ve weighed myself at my home scale, and sure enough, I’m at about 177 and plan to reach my goals within the next month

Back To Basics

Back to basics again for me.
I took my wife to a movie last night and decided to give the “Exact Weight” scale a quarter while I was waiting for her to come out of the restroom. I didn’t like results it gave back to me. Granted, I was fully clothed and wearing heaver Cat steel-toed work boots, but it showed me a number I didn’t ever think that I’d see on my short, but thick frame. 188.4!

Today was the day I was going to resist alcohol, over eating, and the dread of going back into the gym.  I didn’t start the day truly thinking it was the first day of eating the way I was eating for the month after my surgery, but during the day, I kept thinking about the scale at the movie theaterand made my decision that I would get back into shape.  Especially since I recently postponed a insurance physical.

When I got to the gym today, I was told that my membership was expired. That really told the story.  I weighed myself after my 30 minutes on the eliptical and before lightly working back and bicepts.  I think this was much more accurate than my previous weight after last night’s movie, so, I’ll use that weight as my starting point.

181 lbs. on February 26, 5pm

As a side note, when I weight myself tomorrow morning, I’m guessing my scale at home will read 175 or thereabouts.

My goal is to be 165-170 again, but since I’ll be working out again, I think that I’d be happy at 170 with my arms and chest back. Not to mention my stamina!

My Healthy Living Goals:
-Hearty breakfast with fruit
-Need to add back my 10am snack
-Smaller lunches
-Need to also add back my 3pm snack
-Very light dinner w/ only one light dessert/wk
-No more late night nosh or major pig-out. Mothing after 8pm. Try for nothing after dinner.
-No beer for 1 week at a time for month.  Same with other alcohol.
-6 hrs/week of work outs. Including 45min-90min of cardio per day.
-More water than I’ve been drinking.
-I’ve had about 10-15 cans of high-fructose sodas over the past few months. I gotta get back to my commitment of no more. Ever.

Here’s to a healthier life and great results on my insurance physical next month!

Was This “Normal” For You Too?

Funny, but my favorite places growing up were always Las Vegas and Lake Tahoe.

Although I only remember visiting Las Vegas on a few occasions, I loved the fact that I could play video games for a few hours in the arcade or go swimming and playing in the pool.

My dad, mom and two older brothers and I visited Lake Tahoe more often than we did Vegas.  Often twice a year.  For Christmas break, I remember having such a great time skiing at Squaw Valley, Northstar, Krikwood, and Heavenly Valley.  And in the summer time, we’d go jet skiing on the lake back at The Hyatt on the North Shore and watched the firewoks from the beach during Fourth of July celebrations.

Those we some good memories but they weren’t my favorites.  The times I remember the most may surprise you.

I remember the red line. I remember having to stand behind it because I was only 12 or 14 or just way too young to pretend I was old enough to be there.

Once a while, I’d sneak over the line to stand over my dad’s shoulder for about 3 or 4 minutes before one of the dealers or a pit boss told me to go back behind the red line.

More than that though is, I also remember my dad giving me a $25 chip for a few more hours in the Game Room of the hotel and telling me to go play.

But it really got good when I was just old enough where neither the pit bosses or dealers would say anything and my dad would let me stand behind him for more than only a few minutes and watch him play Blackjack or Baccarat.  If he’d let me, I’d stand (or when we were in a higher-stakes table, sit!) behind him for hours and anticipate the next card.

A few days ago I realized my family vacations while growing up were not as “normal” as other’s might have been.  I’m not saying that my compulsion to gambling was a direct result of these trips, but if we had taken an RV around the country or trips to the Grand Canyon or Redlands I probably wouldn’t have grown up thinking trips to the casino were normal.

How were your vacations growing up? Where you one of those young kids sent to the red line?  Did your family go to casino-town destinations?  Or did you travel to different fun spots?

I’d love to hear from you and find out if the spots your and your family travelled to had an impact on your growth.
